Fouad AouadA panel of artistic competences, especially in the music field, that’s Fouad Aouad’s stamp. His roots are anchored in Broummana but he was born in Beirut in 1943, where he finished his elementary and secondary studies. By the age of 27, he quit the Law School in the third year and transferred to the Lebanese Superior National Conservatory from where he graduated in 1980 with two diplomas: Oriental chanting and Oud playing. Afterwards, he started teaching both disciplines in the National Conservatory (1980-1985) as well as at NDU (Notre Dame University) and USEK (Holy Spirit University-Kaslik), where he taught and graduated many famous artistic figures.

His passion for Arabic music inspired him to create advanced academic programs, after he had realized gaps and deficiencies in the old curriculums. He founded the Oriental Chanting Choir at the Faculty of Musicology/USEK and conducted it for many years. Furthermore, he presided the Arabic Music Department there (1985-1988), and afterwards, he became the Arabic music consultant (1997-1999).
He gave conferences in many congresses, as well as in both music faculties at NDU (Zouk Mosbeh) and USEK (Kaslik). He mainly highlighted the Andalousian Music topic and the Arabic Music Congress that took place in Cairo in 1932. In addition to his two specialty fields (Arabian chanting and Oud playing), he taught Occidental and Oriental musical theories. Accordingly, he published an exhaustive book “Occidental and Oriental Music Theories” in 2012 , opening new horizons through his new approach of the Arabic modes’ nomenclature and their key signatures when transposed.
In addition to music, Fouad Aouad became very well known in the acting field. He started his acting journey with Sami Khayat in “Gala Ghala” (1973), “Fiya Mafia” (1975), “Tout Beit Mery Chante” (1976), “Pax Ba’a” (1977) and “Super Choir” (1978). Moreover, he pursued his route with Marwan Najjar, playing the main roles in two TV series: “Hkeyet Kel Beit” (1980) and “Hayk Rabboona” (1982), and on stage through two plays: “Sabi Wein Baddo Yrouh” (1983) and “Fares Wel Sabaya” (1984). Besides, he was renowned for his “Faris Ibn Im Faris” character.
He composed many songs for famous artists in Lebanon, as he also composed the music of numerous theater plays written by Marwan Najjar, May Mansoor, and Joseph Abi Daher, in addition to the famous soundtrack of the two TV series “Min Ahla Byout Ras Beirut” and “Hassad Al Mawasem” (2001), written by Marwan Najjar.
In the children songs field, he wrote and composed many songs, released in two bouquets: “Baqat Ghnani Lil Atfal” (1979) and “Ghannou Maa Nadine” (1995), in addition to the songs of “Iswart El Hazz” theater play (1981), written by Joseph Abi Daher. Furthermore, he composed many anthems, among which the Lebanese Customs Anthem.
Fouad Aouad’s notable experience in the music teaching field pushed him to write down and publish many academic methods. Among his illustrious published works: “The rules of Oud playing (1982), New method of solfeggio (1999), Occidental and Oriental Music Theories (2012),Chady Al Alhan (2016), the new complete version of The rules of Oud playing (2016), and the new version of New method of solfeggio (2016).
Fouad Aouad was also awarded several times, among which the first prize in the TV program: “Nadi Al Nawadi” (1987) for the operetta “Zouk Al Hareer” that he had composed, directed and co-written with Antoine Salameh. In addition to that, he was awarded the Arabian Chanting Award, in the Arabian Song Festival in Abu Dhabi (1996), for the best song for children, concerning music and lyrics.
He is currently finalizing the recording of his musical compositions.
